How to Apply:
- Admission without Examination (Comity) – How to Apply – Comity admission is governed by Tennessee Supreme Court Rule 7, Article V. An applicant must have been engaged in the active practice of law as defined in Rule 7 for five of the seven years immediately preceding the application and must meet the education and character and fitness requirements of Rule 7.
- In-House Counsel and Foreign Legal Consultants – How to Register – The Application to Register as In-House Counsel is limited to lawyers who are admitted to the practice of law in another U.S. jurisdiction or as a Foreign Legal Consultant, to lawyers admitted to practice law in a country other than the United States and territories, and who are employed as a lawyer by an organization, the business of which is lawful and consists of activities other than the practice of law or the provision of legal services, and who has a systematic and continuous presence in this jurisdiction pursuant to Tenn. Sup. Ct. R. 8, RPC 5.5(d)(1).
- Spouse of Military Servicemember – How to Apply – In support and recognition of the service of military families, the Supreme Court includes in Rule 7 a provision that permits temporary licensing for an attorney-spouse of an active duty service member of the United States Uniformed Services in Section 10.06.
